A Tour of the Amorsolo Retrospective, Part I

Christmas Shopping

We hit the mall today as we have to do some shopping for:

1. Clothes for my daughter which she will wear on her Christmas party at school and her Christmas and New Year’s Day’s attire.
2. We need to start with our Christmas shopping list as there are only 26 days left till Christmas.

And I am so happy with how our day went as I was able to do everything on my To Do list.

After eating lunch at Don Henrico’s, we went to Midtown Wing to buy clothes for my daughter and I was able to buy three pairs of clothes for her in just one store. I liked all the three clothes that I asked my daughter to try so I bought them right away. I was also able to buy a gladiator shoes for her at Gingersnaps.

Then we went to Toys R’ Us for our Christmas shopping and after two hours of going around the store, I was able to finish buying gifts for all the kids in my list and in hubby’s list. And since I bought tons of toys from them, they wrapped all my gifts even though some of the items that I bought are below the minimum required for free gift wrapping.

I would have wanted to look for nice sandals (I am looking for a Oscar de la Renta sandal that would go well with the dress that I bought last week for our Christmas party), but hubby and I are already tired after hours of shopping so we decided to call it a day.

I still have a long list to go but at least I am already halfway finish.

Saturday 9: Just Like a Pill

1. What was the last pill you took? Decolgen, medicine for colds.

2. What time of day do you usually feel most energized? Usually in the morning.

3. Who was the last person you hugged? My daughter.

4. If you had a restaurant serve you a perfect breakfast, what would it be? Pancakes with chocolate syrup and hot chocolate drink or my favorite caramel frapuccino.

5. What did you do on Thursday? We visited our friend who just gave birth then we went to Greenhills to pick up my orders from our cellphone store.

6. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be? Though my life is really not perfect, I will not change a single bit about it. I love my life and I am so thankful for all the blessings that I have been receiving (even though there are times that I feel that I am really not deserving of these blessings.)

7. What is your favorite TV commercial at the moment? I don’t watch TV that often nowadays so I am really not familiar with TV commercials.

8. Who would you'd be surprised to wake up and find in your bed? Rob Pattinson. LOL

9. Who is your favorite 80’s band? Eraserheads.

So there goes my answer for this week’s Saturday 9. It’s time for me to go back to work and do some research since I promised my sister to help her with her assignment about steel buildings and in exchange, she will treat me to watch the Twilight movie.

Hi Lo

My Hi – Lo for this week

Hi – We will have overtime work until March which means additional moolah.
Lo – But this also means there will be days when I to stay in the office until 10:30 PM so less time to spend with hubby and my daughter.

Hi – I was able to buy lots of stuff for me, hubby and my daughter from our last trip.
Lo – Wait till I receive my credit card bills.

Hi – Twilight movie is now showing.
Lo – I’m not sure if I have time to watch it this week though.

Hi – I am no (or is still) reading Book 4 of the Twilight saga.
Lo – I will surely miss Edward when I finish with the book.

Hi – Long weekend and it’s already payday.
Lo – I am sure malls will be packed with Christmas shoppers.

Hi – Christmas is just around the corner and it is my favorite holiday.
Lo – I will be force to attend Christmas party again in the office which I really hate.

Pacquiao VS Dela Hoya

Dec 6 is the much awaited match between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar Dela Hoya. I am sure the entire Philippines will be quite again on that day as all Filipinos will be tuned in to watch the match.

One of my colleagues is actually a friend of Manny Pacquiao and he is leaving on the 2nd of December to watch the match in Las Vegas. He is all excited about it as he keeps on telling me about it and he even told me to watch out for him as we might be able to see him on TV as they will be seated in the VIP section (which I think costs around $23,000 per ticket).

I bet it would have been really nice to make las vegas hotel reservations and be able to watch Manny fight with Dela Hoya live. I am sure it is one of hubby’s greatest dreams but I don’t think we will be able to afford the airfare and even the ticket to watch the match live. So our solution: we will just settle with the Sky Cable’s Pay- Per-View.

'Fess Up

I must admit, I love shopping. Every time I feel down or stressed out, shopping becomes my therapy. But things change when I gave birth to my daughter. I still love to shop but shopping with a toddler in tow can be a real challenge.

But like they always say, if you really want it then you will surely find a way to get what you want. And that’s when I fell in love with my new hobby which is online shopping.

I am one fan of online shopping. Almost all our stuff I buy online. Who wouldn’t love the benefits of online shopping? I get to shop in my own home at my own convenient time and nothing beats the pleasure of receiving and opening the box containing all my online purchases.

And for all shopaholic out there, have you heard of the ongoing contest where you only need to make a video or a story of any of your shopping confessions for a chance to win $15,000 in the grand prize? Yes, that’s all you need to do to enter the contest. Just make your video confession, upload it in you tube and register for the contest.

So start recording your video confessions now and who knows, you might win $15,000 shopping money.

Weekend Snapshot # 24 - Giant Buddha

It is my third time to visit Hong Kong but it was only during our last visit there that we were able to check out the Giant Buddha in Lantau Island.

We stayed at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel which is just one station away from the place where we can take a cable car ride going to Lantau Island. So right after checking in at our hotel, we immediately took the MTR going to Lantau Island to see the giant Buddha.

Wednesday Weirdness # 30

1.) Have you ever taken your clothes off for money? No and I don’t think I will be able to do that.

2.) Are you a morning person or a night owl? It depends. Sometimes I am a night owl and I can stay up to the wee hours of the morning. But if I am really tired, I will prefer to sleep early and just wake up early in the morning to work.

3.) Do you take any kind of medication daily or regularly? If so, what? None. I stopped taking pills for almost two months now.

4.) Do you ever have naughty thoughts about any of your friends significant others? No, that is gross.

5.) What are your favorite comfort foods? Chocolate, cake, crepe, strawberry Belgian waffle of Starbucks

6.) Would you rather direct a porn or star in one? None.

7.) Have you ever seen a "donkey show"? Would you ever be interested in seeing one? No.

8.) On a scale of 1 to 10, how gullible of a person would you say you are? I guess 1. I am the type of person who don’t believe right away specially of things that are really absurd.

Anxious and Excited

We will be leaving tomorrow for a four days vacation. We are really excited for this trip but at the same time we are anxious as this is the first time, we will not be traveling with my parents. Every time we go out of town or out of the country my husband would always like to invite my parents so they can help us take care of our daughter. But for our travel tomorrow, it will just be me, my husband, our daughter, my two cousins and my sister.

But I guess even my parents are really anxious for our trip as they have been giving us instructions for our daughter even weeks before we leave. They even went to our house this evening to give more instructions and reminders.

But we assured them that we will really take good care of their grand daughter. One of our plans is to hire a bus charter who will pick us up at the airport and take us to the hotel and we will also be hiring them for our city tours. This way, we will have a safe and convenient travel. I got this idea when my husband and I went to New York City and our group hired New York Bus Charter for all our transportation needs – from our airport transfers, to our city tours, to our visit at the amusement park. We find it really convenient so we wanted to have the same thing for our travel this weekend specially this time that our daughter is coming with us.

I guess my parents are just worried since they just really love their grand daughter so much and they are not use to being far away from her for a long time. But don’t worry mom and dad because we will be home safely on Sunday and we promise that we will really take good care of your dear granddaughter.

Weekend Snapshot # 23 - Sassy's Twins

The day after I told my husband that I was pregnant with our first child, she went home with a cute Labrador puppy which we named Sassy as her gift to me. Sassy is now three years old and last week, she became a mother as she gave birth to two cute baby girl.

We haven’t given them names yet as we want our daughter to think of names for them. Hubby is really excited as this is Sassy’s first kids. Hubby wanted to buy a chocolate brown Labrador and he doesn’t have to do that now since he has his own chocolate colored Labrador.

Below is a picture of Sassy’s family:

No more headaches

My sister has been complaining for frequent headaches but she is always postponing her visit to her doctor. Her first reason is that she is busy with her studies that she can’t find the time to visit her doctor for a checkup. Her second reason is she knows that her headache has something to do with eyes and looks like she will need new glasses which she really can’t afford for now.

But while we were watching TV tonight, she saw that Zenni Optical was on FOX news! She then realized that she shouldn’t be worried about the expenses for getting new eyeglasses since there is a store where she can get Great Eyeglasses For Less. She checked out the online site of Zenni Optical and she was glad to find a lot of fashionable designs that she can choose from at a very affordable price.

Thank to the video of Zenni on Fox that my sister was able to watch since she immediately made an appointment with her doctor for her eye checkup since she knows now that she can afford to buy new eye glasses be it a Variable Dimension Frames From Zenni or single vision lens or any other type of eyeglasses that her doctor will recommend.

Twilight Soundtrack

The Twilight Soundtrack is now out in the market. It was release first week of November and I think the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 already. Imagine it has sold about 165,000 copies in its first week of release.

I was one of the fans who ordered the sound track even weeks before it was release. After learning that Rob Pattinson will be doing one of the songs, I didn’t even look at the track listing and place my orders right away.

The Twilight Soundtrack is the official music for the 2008 movie Twilight and the score has been composed by Carter Burwell.

Here is the track listing for the album:
1. "Supermassive Black Hole" - Muse
2. "Decode" - Paramore
3. "Full Moon" - The Black Ghosts
4. "Leave Out All the Rest" - Linkin Park
5. "Spotlight" (Twilight Mix) - Mute Math
6. "Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)" - Perry Farrell
7. "Tremble for My Beloved" (Collective Soul) – 3:53
8. "I Caught Myself" - Paramore
9. "Eyes on Fire" - Blue Foundation
10. "Never Think" - Robert Pattinson
11. "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" - Iron & Wine
12. "Bella's Lullaby" - Carter Burwell

My good friend Joy already sent me the complete digital copy of the soundtrack but we are still waiting for our CD and I am sure we are both excited for it.

Melamine Scandal

Just last month, I was one of the mothers who got shocked when the news about the Melamine Scandal spread. It was found out that a number of milk products including infant formula have been tested to be contaminated with the chemical substance called melamine.

Melamine is a hard synthetic chemical substance that is being used for the production of countertops, dry erase boards, and others. It is being added to milk in order to cause it to appear to have higher protein content.

I have been reading articles about the melamine scandal on the net and I have found that there are already around 94,000 victims and four infants have died already from kidney stones and kidney damage. This is very alarming especially for me as I have a daughter who is taking infant formula.

Good thing I only buy my baby’s milk supplies like duocal from a very reliable online site called Allegro Medical. They have been in the business since 1996 and they are serving millions of clients so I am sure that they will not be selling milk products that have been recalled because it contains melamine. And it is really very convenient as I can order online and I just set an auto re-order system so everything is really being taken care of for me.

Scandals like this are really very scary and it is just a reminder for all of us that we should really be very careful for all the products that we are buying especially if it is for our kids.

2009 BELLE DE JOUR POWER PLANNER

Are you looking for a nice gift this yuletide season? Then why not give a Belle de Jour Power Planner. I am thinking of giving this to my cousin and buying one for myself.

I read from one of the blogs of my friend last year about this planner but I did not take notice of it. It was only when Peachy mentioned about this planner that I got interested. And true enough, it is really the ultimate planner for women who want to lead the IT Girl lifestyle.

Well for one, it is not just any ordinary planner. This planner comes with special pages for Menstrual Tracker, Vacation Planner, Health Checklist, Christmas Gift list, Dream Board Pages and more. Plus it also includes articles on beauty, time management, health, beauty, travel, career tips and many more. Plus it is the best planner for shopaholics like me since it includes 10,000 worth of discount coupons from stores like Charles and Keith, Esprit, Face Shop, All Flip – Flops (my sister will love this), Schu, Timex, just to name a few.

The planners are being sold at P598. You can order online by just filling up the Order Form and the planner will be sent via courier.

Check the Belle De Jour site for more details.

I have a date with Edward

November 26. Does it ring any bell? Well for me it does. It is the first day of showing of the Twilight movie. (I think we are one week late since the release of the movie in the US is on the 21st ). I am so excited. I have read the Twilight book and I really fell in love with Edward. That is why I can’t wait to see him on big screen. Some of my friends and cousins are already talking about it and we are thinking of watching the movie together. I hope the movie will do justice to the book as most of us know that the book version is always better than the movie version. But I guess no matter how the movie turns out, it will surely be one big hit as a lot fans are already waiting to see Bella and Edward on screen.

Have you seen the latest trailer of the movie?

Almost everyday, I will watch this trailer in youtube and all the more I will get excited to see the movie. (Now if only I can upgrade my computer memory, I will enjoy this trailer more as my PC is really crawling every time I view this video.)

So for those who have been bitten by Edward, it’s a date on the 26th of November.

On being a mom

I am so sleepy. Ever since my daughter had a break from school, she always sleeps late. The earliest time that she will go to bed is around 12 midnight. And since hubby and I are both working, we have to wake up early even though we went to bed late. This translates to pimples, black heads and headache. LOL. I’m sure if I go to a dermatologist, they will surely recommend that I undergo a blackhead removal session.

Just like last night, she went to bed around 11:30 PM already. My nanny said that she did not take her afternoon nap and so we expect that she will sleep like a log as soon as we reach home but I was wrong. Sometimes I really wonder where do kids get all their energy.

But I am not complaining though. Since hubby and I both work from Monday to Friday, it is only in the evening that we get to spend some quality time with our daughter. It is during bed time that we read stories together, sing songs with her, play with her or just spend some bonding time with each other. And no matter how tiring our day has been, just a simple kiss and a big hug from her is really a wonderful way to end our day.

Davao Trip

And so I thought I really think it through before booking our flight for Davao. It was only now that I realized that I should have booked the first flight after talking to my brother who has been there last month. But then the first flight from Manila to Davao departs at 4:10 AM which I think is really early so our 7:55 AM flight is our best option.

So what’s my problem? The earliest schedule for the boat ride going to Pearl Farm departs at 8:00 AM and our flight arrives at 9:40 AM. The next schedule is 1:30 PM so we have a few hours to wait before we can go to Pearl Farm and this also means that we will only have a half day to spend at Pearl Farm on our first day which I think is not worth it for the price that we will pay for our accommodation that day.

So I was thinking of having our day tour on our first day and just stay at any city hotel and just take the 8 AM boat ride going to Pearl Farm resort on our 2nd day instead so we can maximize our time. But then I checked the schedule of shows at the Crocodile Park and they don’t have any schedule on Thursday (which is our first day in Davao).

So what to do now? I still have a few more months to think about it….

New from Cebu Pacific

Have you tried booking a Cebu Pacific flight lately? I just noticed that they added a lot of new features at their site which I think are a good improvement on their customer service.

When I booked during the first quarter of the 2008, they are only offering an option where you can opt to get travel insurance for a minimum fee. Then just a few weeks ago, I booked another domestic flight and I was surprised to see a number of added features that they offer their passengers:

1. Go Lite – Starting September 2, 2008, they are offering P200 off from the total airfare of each passenger who is traveling without checked in baggage. This makes sense since they will be saving big since less baggage means less fuel consumption.
2. Prepaid Excess Baggage – Cebu Pacific reduced their baggage allowance to 15 Kilos per passenger. If a passenger is traveling with extra luggage, Cebu Pacific has an option to upgrade the passengers luggage allowance and they even offer a 20% discount if passengers upgrade at least 24 hours before the flight.
3. Seat Selector – Now passengers can select their seats prior to their flight by just paying a minimum fee of P100 per passenger for standard seats and P200 for premium seats (seats with more leg room like front row seats). This will give passengers the assurance that they will get the seat that they prefer. Or for those traveling together, they will be able to make sure that they will be seated next to each other.

I am a frequent Cebu Pacific customer and so I am really happy for the continuous improvements that the are giving their clients.

Secret

Someone is getting married. Guess who? But I am not giving any clues as I want the good news to come from them. I am just so excited that I can’t help myself and I really have to blog about it.

I am excited for a variety of reasons:

1. I love wedding preparations and since the couple is close to me, I am pretty sure that I will be involved one way or another in the wedding preparations.
2. I am pretty sure that my daughter will be part of the entourage. Actually I already talked to the bride to be and she already informed me that my daughter will be one of her flower girls. Of course, any stage mother will be excited about that.
3. I love parties and I will surely prepare a bridal shower for the bride to be.
4. After the wedding preparations, I will definitely help them when they already have their own kids. I will help them shop for baby feeding bottles, baby bedding, cribs, and baby clothes among others. And being a mom myself, I will love to share and exchange parenting stories with them.

Ok, that is the only information that I can give for now. More details to come after the couple tells everybody about the good news.

Meet Amanda

I am really not a bag hag but I sometimes buy a bag or two in a year out of necessity as I really need it for work. But for months now, I have been craving (and drooling) for an LV bag. I still haven’t gave in to my cravings since one, I still don’t have a budget for an LV bag since the money that I save up for an LV bag always end up being spend on other things. And two, even if I have like $700 on hand, I am not sure if I will be able to take it and just spend $700 for a bag. LOL. But then I realized, I really haven’t bought anything for myself. Yes, I am always shopping but it is always for my daughter or for hubby (do I sound like I am defending myself here?) so why not buy a present for myself?

Then I saw the new Amanda collection from Coach:

This beauty will be in stores soon and it comes in purple which is really my favorite color. Plus it is a few hundred bucks cheaper than the LV bag that I am eyeing. Or should I just wait and save some more until I can afford my LV Bag? What do you think?

Rant: Chicunique1 Multiply Seller

I love shopping online. In fact almost all of my stuffs, I bought online.

I discovered a site that I found in multiply which sells made to order shoes. Their styles and designs are really nice plus their price is really affordable so my sister and I decided to order from them. After spending countless hours checking all the photos of the styles that they have on their site, my sister and I decided to order these:

The transaction was really very convenient at first since my sister just contacted them via SMS and we just made our payment thru bank deposit. But after giving them our payment, it took them 2 moths to deliver our order and we were really surprise when we got it as the shoes is not in good condition. The brown suede shoes that I ordered look old already as there are a lot of glue marks at the front part of the shoe. Plus the size is more than an inch smaller so it doesn’t fit me. The gladiator shoes that my sister ordered would have been perfect but the size again is not correct. It is also more than an inch smaller too.

My sister tried to contact the supplier for our complains but she gave all sorts of reason so we feel that there is no way we will be getting a refund or that she will offer to replace our orders.

Oh well. Their price is really cheap but of course I would still want quality for any product that I will be buying. I should have listened to my friend and I should have ordered shoes from Beautifeel instead. Lesson learned.

To the future ambassador, Congrats!!

I just got the good news from my good friend (I will not disclose the name for now as she is still keeping it a secret) that she just passed the examination to become a Foreign Service National. This means that she has been accepted to work at the Department of Foreign Affairs. She has gone through a series of examinations and interviews and she competed with hundreds of applicants before she got her FSN title.

She said that if not for her degree online, she would not be able to get the job. You see, she did not leave her day job while taking her masteral degree as she can’t afford to loose her job as it is what puts food on their table. So getting an online degree is the best choice for her since she can continue with her graduate studies even if she has a full time job.

I am so proud of my friend. Being able to work in Foreign Service is really a prestigious career and she might even be appointed to be one of our country’s ambassadors (which I think is really possible). I know I will miss my friend if she finally decides to resign and accept the job being offered to her at DFA, but I know that she will really have a flourishing career at DFA. So to you my friend, congratulations and we are so proud of you.

Wordless Wednesday # 28 - Darkness

Questions of the Week #38

1. Are you living in a fantasy world all your own? No. I am happy with my life now with my family and I don’t think it is a fantasy.
2. You’re sitting on a small rock with your 5,6,7,8 years old child in your lap, watching the blue sea together, what would you talk about? The wonder of God’s creations.
3. If you have all the time in the world, what would you change about your life?Nothing. I have experience all the ups and downs in life but I love my life and I will not change a single thing about it.
4. What is the best thing that ever happened to you this past week? I was able to spend bonding time with my relatives last Nov 2.
5. I seldom go out without money in my pocket
6. Is there something you will never do? Sky Dive.
7. Naughty or nice…which have you been this year? Nice I think.
8. How self-conscious are you? I am always bothered by other people’s reactions or comments about almost everything that I say or do.
9. Do you think photos of you capture your essence? Hmm, no.
10. When I get angry, I cry.

I will miss my room

It looks like everything is all set for the renovations in the office. I am excited as I will be getting a new room which I think is much bigger than what I have right now. Plus it will be at the far end of the floor which means it will be more quite compared to my room now which is in front of the pantry.

But if there is one thing that I hate with this change that is happening in the office is that I have to pack my things to move to my new room. But since I will be moving to a new room in the same floor, there is really nothing complicated with my move. I just have to put all my things in a box and cleaners can help me move it to my new room.

This move is really nothing compared to when we move offices last 2004. We have to hire movers like the Boston Movers since we have classified files and equipments that needs to reach our new office safely. So we hired Boston Movers and they really helped us pack, move and unpack all our stuffs. And I can say that they are really a very reliable company since the move was really seamless and our servers and computers are up and running again just a day after the move.

I will be moving offices in just a few months. I will surely miss my room now as it has been my second home for four years now.

Weekend Snapshot # 22 - All Souls Day

November 2 is All Souls day and part of our tradition is to go to the cemetery to visit our departed loved ones. We initially planned to go there on the 1st of November but we are sure that it will be crowded and we have to face heavy traffic so we decided to just go to the cemetery on the afternoon of November 2.

There are still a lot of people when we reached the cemetery but the traffic is manageable. We didn’t bring any food to eat as we know that there are a lot of food stalls there where we can buy food. It was like a reunion too as almost all my relatives are present.

We left around 6:30 PM after offering candles, flowers and prayers and then I brought them to our favorite restaurant to have dinner there. It was really one perfect day for all of us.

In just a few weeks, we will be on board one of Cebu Pacific’s flight to Hong Kong. I am so excited for this trip as this time; it will just be me, hubby, my daughter, my sister and my two cousins. Although we enjoyed our trip to Hong Kong last time with our parents and aunts and uncles, this will be a different trip as we don’t have to worry about the kids and the senior citizens who are with us on the trip. LOL. This means that this time, we have total control of our itinerary and we can literally do whatever we want without anybody controlling us. LOL.

Part of our itinerary is a day tour at Macau and my cousins are planning to try to Bungy Jump at the Macau Tower. The Bungy Jump at Macau Tower holds the Guinness World of Records for the World’s highest Bungy Jump. Guests who decide to try this will experience a 4-5 second free fall at a speed of 200km/h after plunging from 233m high platform.

Just looking at the pictures makes me feel dizzy already. My cousins and my sister are really convincing me to conquer my fear and try the Bungy Jump. Don’t you think we should get a group health insurance before we decide to this? LOL. As of this writing there is no way I will try to Bungy Jump. But let’s see if I will change my mind and try to be adventurous for once when we get there.

Our Future Home

Hubby wanted to visit our house in Bulacan this weekend but since we really had a busy week, we were so tired yesterday that we just decided to postpone the visit.

My hubby has been really keen on his plan to renovate our house there. He kept on saying that Manila is so polluted and crowded already that he can’t wait for our house renovation to finish so we can move there. He already talked to my uncle who is an architect and has asked my uncle to make an estimate for the cost of the renovation. Unfortunately, we will need a big amount of money for the design that he wants for our house. This is the design that he has in mind. He saw this in one of the magazine at the mall.

Looks like we will need new modern furniture to match the new design of the house when the renovation is already finish.
