New Face of Chanel Perfume

Do you know who the new face for the Chanel perfume is?

Emma Watson, who plays the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies, has just signed a two year contract with Chanel to promote the Chanel Perfume, Coco Mademoiselle. The endorsement deal is worth £3 million. (Wooh, that’s one great deal).

Watson just recently signed up with Storm, one of the top modelling agencies, which helped her land the deal with Chanel.

I am no Harry Potter fan but I have seen a number of the Harry Potter movies. I first saw Emma Watson during the first Harry Potter movie and she was still very young then, and she is one beautiful lad. And she continues to bloom to a pretty young lady and so I think that she is a fitting endorser of the new Chanel perfume. I wonder how Danielle Radcliffe feels about this new deal as I read that the two are dating.

Happy Weekend

I just got my Internet back yesterday afternoon and although I still have a lot of stories to share here I still have to put it on hold as I will be really busy this weekend:
  • I have to take Bela to her swimming class.
  • We will fetch Howell in the evening at the airport (I’m so excited to see him.)
  • Do some groceries for my grand mother’s 83rd birthday tomorrow.
  • I have to ask my house help to clean the house and ask her too to buy some bathroom lighting in preparation for tomorrow’s party at our house.
  • Call Sky Cable to schedule the installation of our cable connection (We use to share our connection with our next door neighbor but my husband wants to have our own separate account and to upgrade our package to Platinum as well).
  • Prepare the documents that I need – passport and birth certificate, which I will need in applying for Bela’s Travel Tax Exemption certificate.
  • Call American Eye to inquire about their package for cataract operation for my grandmother and perimitry test for my dad. I might accompany them at American Eye’s Clinic on Tuesday also before going to PTA.
Looks like this would be a busy weekend for me. So I will try to catch up with your tags and memes soon. Happy weekend everyone.a

Everything Steel

My husband has been starting to make plans already for the construction of our house in the suburbs. He is already looking at floor plans and design architecture that he wants for our house. And while he is busy taking care of the technical details for our house construction, he asked me to take care of the interior design of our house.

I have been searching the net for nice themes that we can incorporate for the design of our new house and I am thinking of an “everything steel” theme. I have seen nice steel decorative items like blomus stainless steel mailboxes, stainless tea light holders, stainless steel vases, blomus stainless steel fireplace accessories and a lot of other steel decorative items that I think would go well with the theme that I am envisioning for our house.

I have discussed this with my husband and he is ok with the idea. He particularly likes the stainless steel mailbox which he thinks would really look good in our chic steel gate. He is so for the steel theme since he said that it would give a modern look to our future house in the suburb. I can’t wait for the construction of the house to begin so I can start decorating it as soon as it is finish. This is really the house that I would love to go home to everyday as it is my husband’s labor of love for me and Bela.

SG trip and Travel Tax Certificate

In less than two weeks, we will be leaving for our much awaited Singapore trip. I’m so excited as this is our first time in Singapore. I really haven’t finalized our itinerary. I have to consult hubby first as I will ask him to check the maps so we can better plan our destinations. I have been checking the Visit Singapore website and there are really a lot of interesting places to visit so we really have to make a plan as we will only be there for four days and 3 nights.

But before I get all excited with this trip, I remember I have to get a Travel Tax Exemption certificate from the Philippine Tourism Authority. Minors who are between 2-12 years old are entitled for a travel tax reduced rate. This means I only have to pay P810 for Bela instead of paying the full rate which is P1620.

I checked the PTA website and the only document that they require to get the certificate is the original passport or the original Birth Certificate and photocopy of ID page of passport in case the original passport can’t be presented. And the certificate will be release the same day so I can do all of this on July 1 which is our holiday.

Finance Talk

Are you one of those individuals who can’t have a peace of mind unless al your debts are settled? Well, I am one of those types of individuals. I hate debts and if ever I can’t control myself from using my credit card or getting a loan, I always make sure that I pay for all my dues on time.

Right now we have two existing housing loans. We acquire our first loan when we bought our house and lot in Bulacan and the second one was when my mom’s friend sold us her two door apartment at a price that is very low compared to its market value. And so even though we have no plans of acquiring a second loan, my husband was able to convince me to get another loan since he thought that it is a good investment and the fact that it is being sold at a very good deal.

Although I agree with my husband when we got our second loan and I totally agree with him that in the long run, it would be a good investment, it is still bothering me since I am really not comfortable if I owe somebody a big amount of debt. Add to that the fact that the monthly amortization for the two loans is quite hefty that I sometimes feel worried if we will be able to pay both of them on time. I am even thinking to get a debt reduction program so we can consolidate our two loans and we might get an even better deal in terms of the modes of payment or the interest rates.

Oh well, sometimes there are just people who is like me who is not really comfortable when they are in debt.

Aggie Wants to Know #1

Topic No. 1: Life After the Wedding - the Married Life.

What are the things you want them to know about life after the wedding?

After getting married, it is then when I realized what they I always hear from others that the real life begins after the wedding is really true. I was really caught up with the wedding preparations that I forgot that what is more important is our life together after the wedding itself.

As what I learned from Howell, no married life is perfect but we can always be happy because happiness is a choice. Our married life is not perfect. In the three years that we are married, we have gone through a lot of arguments, a lot of issues and a lot of disagreements (and I know there is still more to come). There was even a point when I questioned myself if we did the right thing and get married. But what I learned from all of this is that as long as we stand for each other, as long as we learn how to compromise, and as long as we learn how to respect and love each other, we will always have a happy life. And it is important that we put God at the center of our lives, because when all else fails, God will always lead us to the right path.

I am now online

Finally after six days of not having an Internet connection, my internet provider was able to send an engineer this afternoon to check on the problem. But I was really dissatisfied with their service. First, their technical support staffs who respond to calls from clients don’t look like they are competent enough to answer all my technical concerns. Every time I would call, they always have a hard time explaining to me what the problem was. Second. I can’t understand why it took them six days to finally fix the problem. And third, sometimes my connection is really slow and sluggish.

And so I thought that this is really a perfect timing to look for another Internet Service provider. I have been asking around and have been comparing different services like DSL, Cable Internet and Fiber Internet and looks like Satellite Internet is the best option.

My friend who is subscribed to Hughes Net Satellite Internet had no qualms or complains whatsoever with the service that she is getting from them. What is best with this type f Internet connection is that it is always on so there is no need to dial up or log in. Plus it is available everywhere since all you need is a clear view of the sky to get a good signal from its two way satellite.

I think Hughesnet is the best option for us as the replacement to our existing Smart Bro WiFi connection. I just have to wait for my husband’s approval and I will definitely put this in my priority list as I really want a new Internet service provider as Smart Bro really sucks.

Our House in the Suburb

My husband and I have always dreamed of a house in the suburb where we can just stay there during the weekend and relax. We are almost halfway down to that dream as we are able to purchase a 1000 sq meter lot in our home town. All we need now is a house plan and a budget for the house construction.

Since it is our dream house, my husband was really keen in incorporating all the design architecture that he wants for this house and he wants it to be the perfect house for us. That is why he wants an expert to make the home plans for us so not even the small details will be left out.

My husband was really excited about this project that as early as now he has been checking on the site of House Plans and More to check out the different house plans that they are offering. His favorite is the Log home plans and this is how he envisioned our house to be.

I’m excited too for this project as it would be really nice to have our own place where we can spend our weekends or it would be even our house where we can retire in the future.

Using your CP to connect to the net

Desperate times calls for desperate measure. As my Internet is still down for five days now, and I really have to go online at home, I have to find ways on how I can do that while waiting for Smart to fix my Internet connection problem.

And so I found the easiest solution to my problem. I used my cellphone to connect to the Internet. It is just easy, just follow the steps below:

Note: These steps are for SMART subscribers only

1. You have to have a phone that is capable of MMS and 3G Then you have to activate MMS and 3G capability on your phone. You can do this by typing

MMS ON and send it to 3401
Set 3G phone model (e.g. N71) and send to 211

2. You will then receive a text message containing the configuration settings for your phone. You just have to save these settings. And if you will be asked to enter the security code, just type in 1234
3. Then install PC Suite on your PC.
4. Connect your phone using the data cable and run PC Suite.
5. From PC Suite, click “Connect to the Internet”. This will automatically connect you to the Internet without the need for TCP/IP configuration.
6. Once connected, you can now browse the web.

It is a little sluggish though. I don’t know if it is because of my PC or my phone but I can make do it without instead of not having any Internet connection at all.

For a powerful web presence

What is the first thing that you do when you want to look for a telephone number of a restaurant, or a list of plumber in your area, or a list of bakeshop within your vicinity? As for me, I would always rely on the Internet to search for anything.

Internet has been one of the most effective ways to market anything. If you are an individual, having a professional online profile can help you market your professional skills and can help you get the job that you want. If you have a business, having a website can help you market your product and gain potential clients.

But having a presence in the World Wide Web is not just enough to promote your products or promote your professional profile. With the hundreds of thousands of information available on the web, it is also important to have a great positioning on the World Wide Web. When a user does a search using one of the search engines, it is important that your site lands on the first page of the search page results.

When I created my own free website, one of the things that I considered when I was looking for a site to host my website is if they can help me have a greater visibility online.

That is what I like about Look up page. Their site is so easy to use since I just have to input all my details online and with just a click of the button, I have my own website that showcases my professional profile. And what is good with them is that they ensure that websites hosted to them will have a greater positioning and visibility in the WWW.

So remember, it is not just important that you have a website. But the website should also have a greater visibility to establish a powerful web presence.

CSI Vegas Season Finale: Spoiler

This is a spoiler so stop reading if you haven’t watched the season finale.

Oh my gosh, I just finished watching the last episode of CSI Vegas and this is the saddest season of CSI so far.

Although I knew already what the ending was as I have read it on the net months ago, I was still shocked after seeing the ending. I can’t imagine that Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown) will leave the show that way. I had goose bumps and I was almost at the verge of crying as I watch the big boss of CSI (I can’t remember the name) shooting Warrick without defense. And all of this happened after the whole team showed support for Warrick. If I haven’t known the ending, I would have thought that this would be a perfect season finale, as once again, the CSI Team showed that they are united and that they are really concern for each other.

But then again, Warrick really has to leave the show (maybe because of his drug problems) and maybe the producers have no plans to take him back so they have to give an end to Warrick Brown’s character. But if I were to choose, I would give Warrick’s character a graceful exit. But at least it gives an interesting twist for the next season and it gives me something to look forward to. Will Grissom and his team catch the Big guy behind the death of the mob head and Warrick? I can’t wait for the next season. But I am still sad. I really can’t imagine CSI Vegas without Gary Dourdan. I will definitely miss him.

Power of Internet and email marketing

My cousin has put up a number of businesses from restaurant, to computer shops, to salons and day care center. And each time she put up a business, it always didn’t work and in the end, she will just have to close the shop and her investments are gone just like that.

At first, she can’t figure out what she has been doing wrong or she even believed that she was just jinxed when it comes to business. But then she realized, maybe if she had just utilize the power of Internet and Email Marketing Software then she might have been able to market and promote her business well and it might still be open by now and is still generating income.

Internet is one of the most powerful ways to promote a business. Most people rely on the Internet to search for a lot of products that they need on a day to day basis. That is why companies are using the Internet together with the power of an Email Marketing Software, to promote their business and make the presence of their business known online.

A lot of companies have been using Email marketing to deliver their message and promote their products to their targeted audience. And it is not a difficult thing to manage as there are a lot of Email Marketing Software that can help even a PR guy with no technical skills. The software provides email templates and it provides easy management of contacts so emails are sent to the company’s targeted audience with the assurance that no duplicate emails will be sent to the clients.

When my cousin found out about this, she vowed that the next time she starts another business, she will make sure to utilize the power of Internet and email marketing.

I hate Smart BRO

Have you ever been an irate client? Due to the damages done by typhoon Frank, my Internet connection has been down since Sunday. I have been calling my service provider to report to them my connection problem and I have been an understanding client and I have been accepting their generic answer every time I gave them a call, which is, the problem is with the base station and that they have been doing all they can to restore my connection back.

But it’s been four days now and my Internet connection hasn’t been restored. And I found out from my next door neighbor, who is using Smart Bro as well, that their connection was not disrupted even after the typhoon. So I know that there is really a problem with my antenna that is why I have been requesting for them to send an engineer to our house to check my connection. But they keep on telling me that I have to wait for another 24 hours since they need to forward my concern to their support group. I was really irritated with how they are dealing with concern so I was really one irate customer this morning. I pity the customer care assistant who handled my call since she was the one who face all my irritations. But much to my dismay, she kept on holding the line every time I ask her something as she does not know how to handle my concerns and then suddenly my line was dropped. And so I though Destiny Internet sucks but Smart Customer Care is as worse as Destiny.

But in fairness to Smart, I have been with them for two years and it is only now that my connection was disconnected this long. Oh well, no matter how much I yell, I really can’t do anything if they can’t send somebody at our house right away to check on my connection. They promised that an engineer will check our Internet connection this coming Friday. Hope they will be true to their words as I miss my Internet connection and I really need it badly.

She is afraid of the dark

My 2.7 year old daughter is afraid of the dark. At least, that is how she feels when we are in our bedroom. She got used to having the lights turned on in our bedroom the whole night so she doesn’t want to go to sleep not unless the lights are on. This is really not cost effective and environment friendly but we have this kind of setup ever since she was a baby so we can’t just abruptly start to turn off the lights in our room during bedtime, otherwise it would be difficult to put our daughter to sleep .

But prices for electricity are continually increasing so we have to look for ways on how to save and cut our electricity consumption. One way that I thought off is using lamps so we can have a little light in our bedroom so we can turn off our fluorescent light during the night and just leave the lamps on instead.

I told my husband about the idea and showed him some cute lamps and lampshades that I saw which I think would look good in our bedroom and he was open for the idea too. He admitted that he has long wanted to use lamps instead of the fluorescent lights as he, not like my daughter, is used to sleeping with the lights off.

He will be arriving this Saturday and hopefully we can do some shopping for table lamps this weekend so we can test how our daughter will react to the new setup and if it works, we might be able to save big bucks from our electricity bill.

I am a travel agent and a baker

I was so tired last Sunday. I served a lot of clients in my Travel Agency and I have baked a lot of cakes and pastries for my bake shop.

Yup, I was a travel agent and a baker last Sunday. Can you imagine how tiring that was. Well, it would really be tiring if I am doing it in real life. But I played the role of a travel agent and a baker while I was playing my two new favorite Yahoo games – Travel Agency and Cake Mania.

Last week, my colleague gave me a copy of her new PC games which kept her awake until the wee hours of the morning. Her favorite is the golf game where she played with golf balls. And since I have no Internet connection, I tried playing with it using my sister’s Mac book and boy I got hooked. That is the reasn why I haven’t been playing with it during the weekdays as I know that I won’t stop once I started playing with it.

Good thing, my daughter was there to remind me that it’s time to stop pretending to be a travel agent and a baker and it is time to be a mother to her. So as soon as she hugged me and pulled me so I will start playing with her, I can’t resist her charm and so no matter how I enjoy my life of being a travel agent and a baker, I have to shut down the PC since I love playing the role of a mother more.

My two cents

I just received another irate email from one of our clients who are following up the creation of his email and network account. The problem is, we really don’t have control on the creation of accounts as the background check has to be done on the employees first by headquarters before we will receive a go signal for the creation of their account.

And since it is the posting season (a lot of officers are moving to their new assignments), headquarters is swamped with a lot of work and so the creation of account is always delayed. This leaves the users idle for days (and sometimes even weeks) as they can't use their email and computer until their account has been created.

If I will have it my way, I will want that the criminal background check will be done by a third party since this is much faster. All we have to do is access their data base of criminal records and in just a matter of seconds, we will have the verification and clearance that we need instead of us doing the lengthy verification process.

If we can easily do a criminal check for a new employee, then their email and network account can be created right away which will really eliminate the periods when an employee is idle because he or she can’t use the PC.

But that is just my two cents. Of course, the management would still have to decide on this.

I have allergies

What is allergy? As defined by wikipedia:

"Allergy is a disorder of the immune system often also referred to as atopy. Allergic reactions occur to environmental substances known as allergens; these reactions are acquired, predictable and rapid. Strictly, allergy is one of four forms of hypersensitivity and is called type I (or immediate) hypersensitivity. It is characterized by excessive activation of certain white blood cells called mast cells and basophils by a type of antibody known as IgE, resulting in an extreme inflammatory response. Common allergic reactions include eczema, hives, hay fever, asthma, food allergies, and reactions to the venom of stinging insects such as wasps and bees."

But can I say that I am allergic to a certain person too? Like I always get goose bumps every time I see that person or I’m having a high blood pressure because I can’t stand how that person is treating me or I can’t even stand to spend one second with him.

I have been tolerating what this person has been doing to me and I have been trying hard so I won’t get affected with whatever this person is doing to me. But I guess we all have our limits. I hope there is an antidote to cure my allergy towards this person. LOL.

A house for our 4WD

What is the problem that most car owners have, next to ever increasing gas prices? For us, it would be a parking space. Right now, our car is just parked along the streets since we don’t have one of those metal garages where we can safely park our cars. This is really not an ideal setup since parking the car along the streets makes our car a good target for carnappers. Also, with this setup, our car is not safe from accidents like it being accidentally hit by a tricycle (which is quite common in our area) or by another car.

Just before my husband left for Majuro three weeks ago, he discovered a deep scratch and a slight vent on the door of our car. We really can’t pin point just anyone and we have nothing to blame for we know that it is an accident and partly it is our fault since we are the one who is responsible in making sure that our car is safe by at least housing it in one of those metal carports.

Since we really don’t have the budget right now to hire for a laborer who can build us one of those steel carports, my husband has been doing some research on how can we protect our car even if we are on a budget. And he was happy to discover Steel Master since we can order metal building kits from them and the metals and the steels have predrilled holes and bolts already which is the only fastener required to construct the garage. This means that even my husband, with the help of my dad, can do it without hiring a laborer. This will really save us big bucks and finally, we will be able to have a garage for our car.

Third Party Help

It has been years already since the account section requested for a third staff to add to their under staff team. Imagine, there are just two of them who are doing all the accounting works for around two hundred employees. But like I said, it has been years already and their request for an additional staff hasn’t been approved yet.

So one day, as I was surfing the net, I discovered the site of National PEO. National PEO lets the company concentrate on their business as they will take the back office chores like HR consulting, payroll processing, recruiting and the like, away form the company’s hands and let this third party company take care of everything.

This might be the solution that our accounts section is looking for. From what I see, the accounts section can choose to remove maybe at least one job responsibility under their care like payroll services and pass this to National PEO. This way, National PEO will handle all payroll processing tasks and the two accounts staff can concentrate on other account duties like processing SSS of employees, payment of cheques to suppliers and the like.

And as I was reading their services, our Human Resources can also use their E Verify service in checking the background of new employees.

Maybe this is something that the management should consider. Since they are really after saving big bucks, they might as well check the services that this company is offering instead of hiring additional staff which will cost the company more.

The Crocs cellphone case

Have you seen these?

These are the new cellphone case from Crocs. I just saw it when I was watching a local show on TV and one of the actress was wearing this on her neck. And so when I searched for it on the net, that’s when I found out that it is a cellphone case made by Crocs.

If you have seen the Cayman model of the Crocs, this cellphone case is just like it complete with a hell strap to keep the phone safe. You can even put Jibbitz to it just like the real Crocs. And it has a belt click at the back or you can use it as a panel to hold your credit cards or other important things. It is being sold at $15 but I’m not sure though what phone models will fit into this cellphone case.

I don’t know, I like Crocs as it is comfortable. In fact I have three pairs of Crocs while my daughter has eight pairs. But I don’t think if I will like this cellphone case. Or maybe, I know that it is too expensive for a cellphone case.

But I read some blogs and they really hate this cellphone case. Read here. What do you think?

We are expanding

Despite the not so good sales during the last quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008, I’m glad that our cellphone business is picking up again. We had good sales since the start of the second quarter and we hope that sales would stay that way.

Since business was doing well, we were able to expand our business and we now carry MAC notebooks and digital cameras and video cameras as part of our merchandise. The sales from the laptop is the one that is bringing us good revenue since our price is really much lower compared to the one sold in malls and we offer the same package and warranty as what the authorized dealer is offering.

But we noticed that a lot of our customers are using their credit card to make their purchases and this is the mode of payment that most of our customers prefer as they don’t want to carry big amount of cash when they shop. And since we don’t have a credit card machine, we sometimes loose sales because the customers will cancel their order once they found out that we can’t accept credit card payments.

So my brother and I have been discussing ways on how can we generate more sales and since we expanded our business, we might as well get a merchant account so we will be able to accept credit cards as payment. I know this will not be a difficult thing to do so my brother, who makes the decision for our business, will look into it further so we can have this service as soon as possible.

Good News and on Missing Howell

I miss hubby so much. So much has happened this week and I wish he is here beside me. He is always the first one to know if something bad happens to me. After my not so good experience with someone from the office, I instantly emailed me to tell him what happened and in just a couple of seconds, my phone is already ringing and he is already there to comfort me. Of course, his hugs would me more comforting. I don’t know what has gotten in to me. I know in just seven days he will be here already, but I feel so sad and I miss him terribly.

My good news, we received a 5% increase this year. Everybody was happy when we got the email as all of us are already expecting that we will not have any across the board increase for this year. One of our markers for our salary is the US Embassy and they don’t have an increase for this year so we thought we would have the same fate as them. But we are a little lucky than them…

On CSI, Gary Dourdan and Drug Addiction

I didn’t realize that CSI NY already started airing their first episode for the new season. My cousin said that the season premiere was really awesome and looks like we are really up for more exciting episodes of CSI NY.

It really made me thought of my favorite CSI Vegas. But honestly, I find the episodes a little bit boring. And specially I was really affected by the thought that this is Gary Dourdan’s last season for CSI. I heard he was forced to resign from the program but they did not mention the reason. But I guess it is because of his problems with drugs.

Juts recently Gary Dourdan was in the news because he was busted and was caught in possession of controlled substances. And when I saw his picture, it looks like he really needs to get admitted in a drug rehab.

I was reading the Info Facts about the Science of drug abuse on the National Institute on Drug Abuse site and I read that drug addiction is a brain disease but can still be cured. I was wondering why Gary Dourdan got addicted to drugs after all the fame that he is getting. He is even one of the most popular CSI actor and was even named as the sexiest CSI actor and I really can’t imagine CSI Vegas without him.

I heard that Warrick Brown (the role that Gary Dourdan is playing in CSI Vegas) will be killed during the last episode of this season so there would really be no chance that he will be able to get back to the show. But I do hope that Gary Dourdan will be able to get back to his senses, get admitted in a drug rehabilitation center to get help for his drug problem and who knows, we might be able to see him again on TV.

Polaroid-on-the-go

Polaroid is not dead. Yes, you heard it right. With the advent of digital cameras and cell phones equipped with digital cameras, I thought that the Polaroid days are really over. But I was wrong.

Polaroid will be invading the digital world by introducing Polaroid PoGo (Polaroid-on-the-go) this coming July at all Best Buy stores nationwide.

PoGo is an inkless digital photo printer that is so small it can fit in your pocket or purse. It uses Bluetooth technology to print pictures from cell phones while it uses PictBridge to print pictures from digital cameras

PoGo uses ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology so pictures are printed without ink cartridges or ribbons. All consumers have to do is buy a ZINK paper which is the size of a deck of cards so they can instantly print pictures.

PoGo will be available at Best Buy come July 6 and at Target come July 20 and will priced at $149.

For our Aunt, whom we love so dearly

My aunt has been suffering from an acute case of scoliosis for years now. Because of her condition, it is difficult for her to travel to and from her office and so she was forced to resign from her job because her body can no longer tolerate the long commute to and from work.

She has undergone series of physical therapies to correct her condition but her doctor advised her that only operation can really correct her scoliosis. My aunt was really against the operation because, one, she thinks that she is already too old for the operation and second, she is scared to have it. We know that sometimes the pain caused by her scoliosis is unbearable but she doesn’t want to trouble us or make us worried that she sometimes keeps the pain to herself.

Her birthday is coming in just a few months and so I, together with my siblings and cousins, are planning to give her a new bed, complete with good mattresses, pillows and bed linens.

I have been doing some research and I read that foam mattress can help support an already twisted spine and provides good back support so we want to get one of those for her. I have been checking for different brands of foam mattress and I will just ask my cousins to help me select which one we will be getting for our aunt.

We also like to get her one of those therapeutic pillows that will provide more back and neck support so she will be able to sleep more comfortably.

My aunt was the one who took care of all of us when we are still young. I can still remember, when she was still working, she always buys a little something for all of us when she goes home from work. We love her dearly and so we just want to return back the love that she gave to us by doing small things like this for her.

We love to travel

How can you afford to travel at least once to three times in a year?” That is the question we often received from our friends and relatives every time we travel. My husband and I share the same passion for traveling. We believe that no amount of money can repay the experience that we get in traveling. Being able to experience the different culture that each country has to offer, being able to visit the famous places that we only once saw in magazines or books, and just being able to enjoy the company of each other. Those are really priceless, right?

I remember, back then, before we can go to any Asian destination, we have to save and prepare for the budget years in advance since the airfare is really expensive. But things have changed now and we are lucky since there are a lot of budget airlines emerging. They are trying to compete in attracting customers and so every now and then, they offer cheap tickets as promos to their clients. So what I usually do is wait for the promos being offered by the different airlines and we will book months in advance so we can get big discounts.

That is how we can afford to travel once or twice a year. Thanks to my ever reliable site, Cfares.com, since I can easily search, compare and book for the cheapest airline fares online.

So there, now you know what our secret is when it comes to traveling.

Surviving Winter

I was able to catch my fiend online the other night and we had a good chat. She has been living in United Kingdom with her husband for a year now and she said that they are really adjusting well with their new environment.

It is already summer in UK now but she really can’t forget their first winter experience last year. Since they came from a tropical country and they are used to warm weather, they really had a hard time adjusting during the cold winter months. Since they don’t have double glazed windows, the heat coming from their heater is not trapped properly and some heat is loss so it cost them a big chunk of money from their salary to pay for their electricity bill since they use their heater 24/7 during the winter months.

She learned about the concept of double glazing from their friends and suggested that they double glaze their windows too. It is energy saving since double glazed windows traps air between two pairs of glass, thus reducing heat loss. So installing these kinds of windows will definitely reduce the electricity bill specially during the winter season.

My friend got good feedbacks about Double glazing company UK and she heard that they are even offering promos during the summer months. This could really be the solution to help my friend and her family survive the coming winter season that is easy in their budget.

Die with Envy

I love the Mac Air book. Imagine a notebook so thin. Our gadget store is carrying the Mac Air book as one of our merchandise. My brother owns one and so I tried playing with it. Yah, I love how Mac Air looks, how cool it is and how thin it is for a notebook, but then being a Windows user ever since, I just can’t get the hang of using Mac OS.

Yes they say the it will really be difficult to adjust at first but once you get the hang of it, you will never really go back to using Windows. But if you are like me who is not into trying out something new, then this new HP laptop is the one for you.

Introducing Envy 133. Envy 133 is a collaboration between HP and Voodoo and is the thinnest laptop available on the market today. It measures 0.7” thick (while the Mac Book Air id 0.76” thick) and weighs only 3.4 pounds.

And since it is in collaboration with Voodoo, one feature of this laptop that is not available in Mac book is its Voodoo IOS which enables user to launch the Internet in just 10 seconds without having the need to run the Operating System.

So do you think this is the Mac Book Air killer?

Who's Your Famous Family Match?

I saw this when I was blog hopping and so I said; why not give it a try.

My results:

Jessica? Ashlee? Joe? No matter which Simpson you love (or love to hate) most, one thing's for sure — you'd be right at home with this famous clan! Caring and considerate, your family probably reaches out to each other when the going gets tough. You're not perfect though — every family has their share of scandals and drama, and yours is no exception. But whether you get confused (is it chicken or fish?), are fighting off the rumors (hello, SNL scandal!), or are just making sure you stay focused on what's most important (love, of course), you always make sure it's a family affair — just like the Simpsons!

Life outside your native land

Ever since my friend move to Phoenix after graduating from college, her life was never the same. I was just talking to her the other day and she has been telling me how she misses the comfort that comes with living here in our own country. When she was still here in the Philippines, they have a house help that does everything for her from her laundry to cooking and anything else that needs help to. But after she moved to Phoenix with her husband, they have to learn to be independent and accept the fact that they have to do everything themselves.

When I asked her if she would recommend that we migrate to the US too like them, she would right away say that if we are living a comfortable life here – we were able to meet our basic needs and satisfy some of our wants, then we should just stay here in the Philippines. Imagine, they have to have double jobs just to make both ends meet plus they both have to work on weekends too so they never really have time to rest. And even though she is a Computer Engineering graduate, she finds it difficult to look for a job in the Information Technology field. So the jobs that they are getting are the blue collar job which does not really pay well.

And now that their family is growing, since she is now 6 months pregnant, they have to look for ways on how they can get a job that really pays well for the future of their family. They started by letting her husband take an online degree program from the University of Phoenix. This is the perfect setup for her husband since he is not required to report to the campus and he can access the online lectures and courses at his own convenient time.

My friend said that in just a few months, her husband would be able to finish her degree program and hopefully this would really help her husband in looking for a better job to secure their future.

More than skin deep

These past few weeks, I have always been sleeping late that when I looked at the mirror this morning, I noticed that my pimples are growing back. When I was a teenager, I never really had problems with pimples. Yes, I would have zit every now and then but it will eventually go away without using any Acne Complex treatment.

But that is not the case for my friend back in high school. Ever since I met her, she is always the aloof and shy type of person. She developed a low self confidence all because she did not feel good about herself because of her Acne. I know some of us might think that it is very trivial but acne is more than skin deep. Beyond the skin disorder, acne does affect a person’s psychological well-being and brings a negative effect on the person’s personality like having a low self esteem and even depression.

But my friend had a choice of just letting her acne overcome her wonderful personality and just remain to be the aloof girl that she is or she can deal with her acne problem. And I was proud to say that my friend chose the later and have decided to give Murad Acne Complex a try. She has tried several other treatments and each time she will just end up disappointed and broke as the treatments are really expensive but never effective. Good thing she was able to discover this product developed by the world renowned dermatologist Dr. Howard Murad.

What’s best about the Murad Acne Complex is that it is like using your everyday skincare product. All my friend has to do is just clean her skin with the clarifying cleanser which cleans 99% of the bacteria. And then she needs the acne treatment gel to treat blemishes and prevent new ones form coming out. Then the last thing that she needs to do is use the skin perfecting lotion to hydrate her skin. Simple right?

My friend said that it was really easy and effective that in just four weeks, a new personality has emerged from my friend and she has really overcome her shyness. Would you believe she even ran and won as one of the officers of our Student Council?

Happy Days are Over

I had a bad dream last night. In my dream, I was really having a bad day and I was all moody that I was throwing all my stuff all over.

When I woke up this morning, I feel certain nervousness. My heart was thudding for reasons I don’t know. Then there was heavy traffic on my way to work and I was late for 18 minutes. Then I received a text message from one of my colleagues asking me where I was as we will have a meeting at 8:30 AM. I was already on the elevator when I received the message and now I know why I’m feeling this way and what my dream last night was all about.

Yup, HE is here so happy days are over and I’m back to having a hell week. Actually I already knew that HE was here because somebody mentioned it to me yesterday but I was still hoping that HE will not report to work today. But oh well, and HE must have missed me that much that after our group meeting, HE requested that I stay and he wants to talk to me alone. Oh well, I was so touched after HE talked to me that I cried. LOL.

But you know, I have something to look forward to. After this week, it will just be five days more and I will be able to see hubby again.

New Zealand?

I have expressed my thoughts here before on the issue of possible moving to another country. Like what I said I don’t think I am ready for now but I am not closing my doors too if the perfect opportunity comes.

Just recently, my friend from high school went there as a tourist. Her main purpose of going there was not really for a vacation but to check what her options are for possible employment in new zealand. She works as an IT manager for sales in one of the biggest computer companies here and abroad and she wants to explore her options of working abroad. She said that it is very easy to look for an employment in New Zealand as she just applied while she is on tourist visa there and she immediately got hired and the company is willing to process her working visa right away.

Of course, she was shocked at how fast things are moving up for her and since she has two sons which she left in Manila, she declined the offer for the moment as she is not ready to move to new zealand that soon specially she left her two sons here in Manila.

But like what she said, her trip was all worth it as she was able to discover that she has a lot of options if ever she finally decides to move there and at least I got to know too that we can someday consider New Zealand to be one of the countries where we can emigrate.

Weekend Snapshot # 9 - Bela and the Bears

These pictures were taken a few months ago when we went to Rockwell, one of the biggest malls in Makati. We were just strolling around the mall when we saw these big bears on display.

My daughter really got excited after seeing the bears that she immediately asked me to remove her shoes so she can play with them. Good thing they allow kids to play with the bears on display and to have a pictorial with them too. So my daughter happily poses while my hubby goes clicking away with his camera. My daughter really looks so small beside these gigantic bears but she never really mind as she was just so happy playing with them.

Forbes Top Celebrity List

Who made it to Forbes Top Celebrity List? Here is the Top 10.

1. Tom Cruise
2. Rolling Stones
3. Oprah Winfrey
4. U2
5. Tiger Woods
6. Steven Spielberg
7. Howard Stern
8. 50 Cent
9. Cast of The Sopranos
10. Dan Brown

I can’t believe that Tom Cruise is number 1. I haven’t seen him in a while on big screens (or it might be that it has been ages since I last watched a movie. LOL) but according to Forbes, Tom Cruise earned $67 million last year.

So how Forbes does generates the list for the Top 100 Celebrity List? First off is they consider the income of the person. Then of course, Google plays an important role again as Forbes use their calculation for web references. Then they also consider press clips, TV/radio mentions and the number of times a celebrity’s face appears as the cover of a magazine. Interesting criteria.

I scanned through the list and guess what; Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie can never really stay away from each other as they are tied at number 35 while Brad Pitt is at number 20. And looks like the cast of Desperate Housewives are really making it big as they are on the 34th spot.

Those were the days

I was going through my emails when I opened the email that came from my good friend Aubrey. She sent me a picture of the last Sanguniang Kabataan’s get together hosted by the City Vice Mayor.

I was not able to attend the dinner since Howell was working overtime that day so I suddenly missed my friends from SK after seeing the picture. It brought back a lot of good and not so good memories when I was still the SK Chairman in our barangay.

Since our main target is for the welfare of the youth, most of our projects are sports activities and anti drug campaigns. I remember there was even one time when all the SK Chairmen worked together in order to organized an adult addiction treatment seminar for all the youths in our vicinity. This gave the youths an idea on what they have to go through to get out of drugs so this might help in one way or another, in influencing them to stay clean and to say no to drugs.

Since drug addiction is the number one enemy of the youths, we try to concentrate our projects on activities that will help the youths to stay away from drugs and saving them from undergoing drug intervention program.

And I guess all our efforts were not put to waste since we were able to influence a lot of youths to stay clean, finish their studies and have a chance for a good future.

I guess saving a lot of youths from undergoing drug detox treatment by keeping them away from drugs is my number one accomplishment as a former SK Chairman.

I miss him

I’m feeling lonely today. I received a text message from someone who asked me to do a little favor for him. He was so disappointed since I was not able to do the favor that he asked me and I just felt affected since the text message that I received from him sounds like he is blaming me for what happened. I just feel down after reading his text and Howell is not here to comfort me. I just noticed that tears are already falling down my eyes.

Maybe it is just because I just watched Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium movie (which made me cry too when Mr. Magorium died) or I was just all alone in our bedroom since I left Bela with her yaya since I was working overtime or I just watched Lorna Tolentinos’ interview about her thoughts now that she is a widow or maybe I am just feeling senti today.

Oh well, maybe I will be able to chat with Howell tomorrow. Gosh I miss him so much. I can’t to hear his voice on his next phone call.

Electricity Subsidy, is this what we really need?

I just learned from the news that the government is allotting P2 billion pesos from the government’s VAT collection as one time electricity subsidy to consumers consuming less than 100 Kwh per month.

In order to avail of the P500 electricity subsidy, consumers have to claim it from Landbank and I saw from the news when they were interviewing consumers and they are already in line for five hours already just to get the P500 subsidy.

I know P500 is P500 and it is already a big help for consumers but is this Filipino people needs? From my point of view, since the P2 billion funds came from the VAT collection, it is just like getting the subsidy from the consumers themselves. So does it look like the government is just fooling us?

I think that if the government is really sincere in helping the low-income consumers and industries, why don’t they provide a long term solution to the problem instead of just giving consumers a one time help of P500. The problem is that the government should be able to control and moderate the ever increasing energy prices. Why doesn’t the government remove the VAT on electricity bill instead? With this, the consumers and industries will reap long term benefits instead of Meraclo just benefiting from this P500 subsidy.

On Cebu Pacific Promo and Credit Cards

Cebu Pacific is having another promo again and this time they are offering an All-in promo where total rates already includes the fare, insurance surcharges and 12% VAT. Promo is for domestic travel and travel period is from July 1 to October 15, 2008. This is really tempting as I really wanted to go back to Bohol but since we already have a planned trip this coming November to Hong Kong, I have to say pass for this offer.

But I just received a phone call from one of my friends this morning and is asking me a favor if I can buy their tickets using my credit card and she will just pay me in cash. You see, my friend incurred a lot of credit card debt and so all of her credit cards have been cancelled already. And since she has a bad credit standing, she is having a hard time applying for a new card even though she is paying her existing dues at deferred payment after she made a debt negotiation with the credit card company.

At first she was really in denial and she did not want to settle her debts as she argued that no one really got imprisoned because of debts (at least that’s the way it is here in the Philippines). And she even said that she can live without a credit card and so she wouldn’t mind if she has a bad credit record. But then she realized that credit cards are also a necessity. So right after realizing this, she immediately contacted a third party company who can help her make a debt settlement. And that is the reason why she is now paying in deferred terms, the debt that she owes the credit card company and hopefully she will be able to get her good credit standing soon.

Lesson learned, no one can really get away from debt and with responsibility; you will get to enjoy the many benefits of having a credit card.

Blinds, blinds for her pad

Yesterday, we accompanied my good friend to check on the condominium that she just purchased. The building manager said that she can move in come July and have asked her to check on her unit to see if there are things that she wants to get done before she moves in like the installation of air conditioning unit, installation of shower heads, and others. She asked us to go with her so we can give our opinions too and help her decide what are the additional things that she needs to install and buy for her condominium unit.

When we entered the room, all of us notice that the glare of the sun from her window which is right in front of her living room is really blinding that she really needs to install blinds, instead of curtains. One of my friends who just installed blinds on her window gave my friend the site where she purchased hers.

So right after our trip to her condominium unit, we went to her old apartment to check on the website where she can buy window blinds. While checking the site, all of us agreed that it is down to two brands. Her first choice is the Bali Blinds which has great designs and is even nature friendly as they use recycled materials to make it and what’s even cooler is that their blinds have heat reduction and UV protection. Her second options are blinds from Hunter Douglas sine they have the option to let consumers customize their own blinds.

My friend is really excited for her move to her new pad and I can’t wait too for her house warming.

Rice, Rice Baby

They say that falling in line is part of the everyday life of a Filipino. I realized it is true since I always start my day falling in line to get a ride to work, then during lunch break, I have to fall in line again to get my food, if I go to a bank to pay my bills, I have to fall in line too.

But on my way to work everyday, I noticed that there is a long queue of consumers lining up outside the public market. And I learned that most of them are in line as early as 4 or 5 AM in the morning so they will be able to buy cheap NFA rice as the Philippines is experiencing rice shortage. How ironic, for an agricultural country like us, it is a pity that we Filipinos have to deal with all this just to be able to buy cheap rice.

I am never conscious with the prices of commodities when I do my grocery. But lately, I was really shocked as the prices of the different commodities have gone up. If I remember it correctly one kilo of rice is only priced at P32 before but the last time we did our grocery, I think it is already priced at P40-P60 per kilo. No wonder there is a long queue to buy the NFA rice.

Honestly, sometimes I am already loosing hope that there is still a chance for Filipinos.

Tidbits

I was suppose to make a withdrawal yesterday at BPI from Bela’s savings account (gosh I think the only transaction that I have for Bela’s savings account is always withdrawal and no deposit. I better check my cash flow; otherwise I might end up withdrawing everything from Bela’s savings account. LOL) before going to Toddlers Unlimited but I totally forgot that it is a payday weekend so the bank is full. And that is one thing that I hate about BPI, their tellers are so slow that you have to fall in line for more than an hour before they can finally entertain you. So I decided that I will just make a withdrawal next week.

But to make the most of my trip to BPI, I decided to talk to their mortgage lenders to inquire about a possible loan. My mom’s friend is selling her two door apartment and Howell is really interested to buy it. Although I’m totally against getting a second loan while we are still paying for an existing loan, I just want to check what our options are as my husband is really set in buying the apartment. But we will see. We still have to talk about it when he gets back at the end of the month.

Major House Renovations: Soon

My uncle went to Bulacan last weekend to do some errands and he was able to check our house there. We rarely get to go there to check on the house since we are busy every weekend. And since my grand father is the only one staying there and since he is quite old already, he was not able to maintain the house well.

According to my uncle, the kitchen needs major repairing as most of the tiles in the kitchen sinks are already broken and needs to be replaced. Also, the tiles in the bathroom are all dark, dirty and have cracks in it and needs major refurbishing too. And since we will be redoing the bathroom, he suggested that we change the bathroom sink too as it is too old already.

Actually, my husband is really planning to renovate the house anytime soon. We are just waiting for our home loan to finish (which will end in nine months), so we can file a loan again for the major renovation of our house in Bulacan since it is not just the bathroom and the kitchen that needs major renovation as Howell needs to change the lay out of the house and add a second floor. And who knows, if budget permits, we can enhance the aesthetic of the house by adding vessel sinks in the bathroom and other interior decorations.

Howell dreamed of our house in Bulacan as our rest house where we can stay during the weekends just to relax. I can’t wait for my husband’s dream to come to reality.

Globe Telecom brings Iphone here in RP

Do you want to get own an Iphone? Well actually the open lock version is already available in Greenhills (just visit our shop if you want one and I can give you good deal.) But the first release of the 3G Iphone in partnership with a telecom company will happen this September as Globe Telecoms brings 3G Iphone here in the Philippines. It is available for both post paid and pre paid subscribers. I read somewhere that Globe will be selling at Apple is selling $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model and it comes with 2-year contract with Globe.

I was playing with my brother’s Iphone a while ago and it was really cool. The only problem that I see is that it would be difficult to text since you have to press the keys on the screen to enter the letter one by one. It doesn’t have a styles or a keypad so it will take a while before you get used to using it for texting. But aside from that, all the features – 3g capability, 8 -16 Gb storage space for music and videos, Wifi capability etc, is really superb. I think if I have this phone, it will take years before I finally get to replace it.

Bela’s First Day at Toddlers Unlimited

It was Bela’s first day of class last Wednesday at Toddlers Unlimited. I was not able to go with them as I was not able to file a leave from work so it is just my mom and my dad who went with Bela to school.

My mom was telling me a lot of stories about how Bela’s first day of school went. There was even a time when one of Bela’s classmates hugged Bela and since she is not used to being hugged by strangers, she kept on shouting “Help me please, help me” and everybody was laughing because of this.

Too bad my mom was not able to catch this moment on camera since they forgot to bring their digital camera. She also tried her cell phone but when she clicks on record, it is saying that the memory is full. Darn. I better buy my mom a micro sd with higher capacity for her cell phone since she will always be with Bela at school so she will not fail to record special moments like this.

My Dream Kitchen

I am no cook. I am like my mom who has no idea when it comes to kitchen and cooking stuff. But it has been my dream to have a beautiful kitchen at home and I always have a picture in my head on how my kitchen would look like.

We were at Mall of Asia last Sunday and there was an exhibit of beautiful kitchen appliances. After seeing the exhibit, I immediately went inside to check all the kitchen appliances on display.

When I went in the US, I was really amaze with the high tech kitchen appliances that my friend has in her kitchen She has this nice looking refrigerator with a side by side style and has a built in water and ice dispenser. I know this is pathetic, but I always dream of having that kind of refrigerator in my kitchen. It just looks so sophisticated and for me, is really high tech.

And since dishwashing is my least favorite thing to do, having a dish washer would also be a nice addition in my dream kitchen. And since I love to bake too (although I haven’t done that in the longest time now since our oven already gave up on us), I would love to have Kenmore gas range too.

We would be finish paying our housing loan in just a couple of months and Howell promised that my dream kitchen would be his first project at our house in Bulacan. I can’t wait.

It’s a girl!

It’s a baby girl for Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren. She gave birth to a pretty girl last June 7 at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. They named their baby girl Honor Marie Warren (what a pretty name). Jessica Alba even flew his father, Mark Alba, from Florida to Los Angeles just to be wit her on her first experience of being a mother. Jessica’s dad was one proud and happy grandparent.

And it’s a baby girl too for Tori Spelling and hubby Dean McDermott. Stella Doreen McDermott was born last June 9 at 3:13 p.m. in a Los Angeles hospital via C-section. She weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz. and was 19 3/4 inches long. This is Tori and Dean’s second baby together. Their first was a boy, Liam Aaron, and is now 1 year old.

And with the fight of the magazines over Brad Pitt and Angelin Jolies’s twins, I wonder if couples Jessica and Cash and Tori and Dean will consider also selling their baby’s first pictures.

Still a child at heart

My brother and my cousin share the same passion for video games. I remember when we were still kids, my cousin would always spend some time at our house or my brother will stay at their house and they will both stay up to the wee hours of the morning to play video games.

I guess, men will never outgrow their love for video games because up to now that they are already mature adult, they would still go crazy over video games. I guess as they grow older the video games that they play just get more expensive. Before they are happy with the Atari game, then came Nintendo, and now they already both have the Sony PlayStation 2 and the PSP but both of them said that the graphic resolution and speed of the newer Video Game module is exceptional so they are both planning to buy a newer video game console.

They are torn between the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3. I told them to check the site of shopwiki and read the buying guide for both Xbox and PlayStation 3 so they can have a better comparison between the features of the two video games. And guess what, as soon as I gave them the link, they immediately went online to check on it.

Yes, they are already grown up adults but I guess when it comes to video games, they will always be a child at heart.

I want to go to San Francisco

I was checking my archive of pictures last night as I was looking for a picture that I can post for the Wordless Wednesday blog carnival when I saw a picture of my cousin when he went to San Francisco.

I’ve been to the United States twice already but I haven’t stayed in one of those San Francisco hotels and have a tour of San Francisco. I remember, two of my colleague just recently had a vacation there last April and they were both saying what a wonderful city San Francisco is.

Since all of our friends lives in Los Angeles, we always go to Los Angeles instead so our accommodation is always free. So we never really considered other cities since were scared that we have to shed a big amount of money for our accommodation. But according to my colleague, there is a lot of cheap hotels in San Francisco and they are not so bad at all since they are clean and well maintained.

This really convinced me that we should really look for hotels in San Francisco the next time we go to US so we won’t miss seeing the beautiful Victorian architecture of San Francisco and we can get to ride their famous cable cars and of course, we should not miss San Francisco’s famous landmark, the Golden Gate Bridge.
