I always wanted to create a website. I like to build a website where I can post anything about myself, about my life, my family and of course about our dear princess Bela. I also like to have a website that will focus on my career life and highlights my professional profile so I have a presence online to showcase my skills as an IT professional.
With the advent of the Internet, more and more people rely on the Internet to get all the information that they want so a lot of companies and even individuals sees the Internet as a good marketing tool. And so it is really important to have an online web presence.
I know simple HTML programming as I sometimes use it at work but I really don’t have the technical skills to create my own website. I am still learning and during the process of my quest to create my own site, I have learned a few tips on how to build a website that I like to share here.
1. The first step in creating your own website is getting a domain name. A domain name is the name that you want to give your site. You have to register this name to a domain registrar and you have to pay an annual fee for this. There are umber of domain registrar that you can find like Godaddy, Namecheap to name a few where you can register your domain name.
2. Then you have to sign up for web hosting service where you can save your web pages. Once your web pages are saved to a web host, anybody on the Internet can now view it.
3. Once you have a domain name and web host, you can now start putting content to your website. But posting content to your site is not just typing it in a Word Document and posting it. You need HTML skills to edit your post in HTML format which is the format that is needed for web pages.
You can either learn HTML programming or use free and commercial web editors so you will be able to create web pages that you can upload to your web host. Once you have the content, then that is the time you can take care of the appearance of the site and enhance it again by using templates and adding elements to your site to improve its appearance.
4. Website programming is fun but can be really tedious also. If you don’t want to get through all of these hassles, you can get a third party company that offers website builder that can help you make your own web pages even without technical knowledge on website building. Most of these companies even offer free domain name and free web hosting which can really help an individual or company set up their own website in just a few click of a button.
