Rice, Rice Baby

They say that falling in line is part of the everyday life of a Filipino. I realized it is true since I always start my day falling in line to get a ride to work, then during lunch break, I have to fall in line again to get my food, if I go to a bank to pay my bills, I have to fall in line too.

But on my way to work everyday, I noticed that there is a long queue of consumers lining up outside the public market. And I learned that most of them are in line as early as 4 or 5 AM in the morning so they will be able to buy cheap NFA rice as the Philippines is experiencing rice shortage. How ironic, for an agricultural country like us, it is a pity that we Filipinos have to deal with all this just to be able to buy cheap rice.

I am never conscious with the prices of commodities when I do my grocery. But lately, I was really shocked as the prices of the different commodities have gone up. If I remember it correctly one kilo of rice is only priced at P32 before but the last time we did our grocery, I think it is already priced at P40-P60 per kilo. No wonder there is a long queue to buy the NFA rice.

Honestly, sometimes I am already loosing hope that there is still a chance for Filipinos.
