Since my brother resigned from his work as a programmer, he has been managing our cell phone business and it has been his source of income. Business is doing well during the first two years, but sales started to drop this year which leaves my brother worried as this is his only source of income. So he has been looking for a second business that he can start to add to his monthly income.
Internet Cafes is a big business in our area since there are a lot of public and private schools within the vicinity so my brother is considering starting his own Internet Café. Since my husband and I are both Computer Engineers, he has been consulting us on how he can start his own Internet Café business.
So we gave him a list of the things he needs to invest on to start his own Internet café.
First, he needs to look for a perfect place to house his Internet café. The location should be near the school area so he would have a lot of prospective clients. Then he needs to invest on the following devices needed to start a local area network for his Internet shop:
1. Computer – Of course, the heart of this business are PCs with good technical specifications so he will be sure that it will be running at its top performance specially when running software that requires high memory usage. Then he also has to invest on licensed software for all the PCs operating system and software.
2. Cisco Catalyst Switches – He need to buy one of those switches to connect all the PCs and share Internet connection. We use Cisco switches in the office and we never have problems with it so we highly recommend it to my brother.
3. HP Proliant Servers - Then he needs a central server that will manage all the devices connected to the LAN. Again, since we are using HP servers in our office and it is really reliable as we never experience any down time, HP is also the brand that I would highly recommend to my brother.
4. The Cisco Unified IP Phone 7905G – And of course communication is a major part of a business so he has to buy a phone unit that he can use for telecommunication.
