I have an uncle who is an alcoholic. He is the husband of the sister of my mom. My aunt is dead now and he is not living with his kids anymore since he has his own family already. But last night, he visited us here and of course he is drunk again.
I remember when we’re still young, my aunt with her two kids moved into my grandmother’s house. Were still young at that time and we don’t understand what was going on but it was only now that we came to understand the situation. During that time, my uncle would always go home drunk and would cause chaos in the house. He sometimes would hurt my aunt which forces my aunt to move out of the house with her two kids for the fear that he might hurt his two kids too. He went to fetch my aunt and his kids and my grand father talked to him. The condition was his family would go back to him if he will surrender himself to Drug Rehab.
Of course, nothing happened when my aunt move back with him. He doesn’t want to go to a Drug Treatment Center, he went back to his old ways and he never became sober.
Now I realize, if only he admitted that he has a problem and surrendered himself to an Addiction Treatment, maybe things would turn out differently. Maybe even if my aunt is already dead, his kids would still want to be with him. Maybe, they would still be one happy family.
But of course I have no total control of the situation. What is important now is that my two cousins were able to move on and they are both successful in their own chosen field and they are happy because in spite of what happened, they still have a family in us.
