I am a fan of online shopping. Most of the things that I purchased for my daughter and my husband, I bought online. That’s why I was really glad when I discovered PayPal.
So what is PayPal? I got this definition from wikipedia.org:
“PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. It serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such as cheques and money orders. PayPal performs payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other corporate users, for which it charges a fee.”
What I like about PayPal is I don’t have to always give my credit card detials to the merchants every time I order. After I created my acount in PayPal, I just have to verify my account by adding a credi card or bank account. Once my account is verified, I can use it to pay for all my online purchases. Every time I pay for a service or goods, I just use my PayPal account, which is an email address, then the amount will automatically be deducted from my PayPal balance, or is charge to my credit card or bank account.
The benefits of PayPal is that it makes online transaction secure since you don’t have to divulge your credit card details every time you make a purchase. Also, it is a faster way to make a payment or receive money since it just like sending an email. And the best part of it is that creating a PayPal account is absolutely free. One disadvantage that I can see for PayPal is that since it is fairly new here in the Philippines, most local banks are still not aware of how it works. There was a time when I inquired to a local bank on how I can add my bank account to my PayPal account and the agent that I’m talking to doesn’t even know what PayPal is. But I believe, in the coming days, more and more local banks will utilize the functionality and benefits of PayPal.
