Is this the reality of old age?

I was talking with my grand mother a few minutes ago and she shared with me the sad plight of her friend. My grandmother told me that her friend has no where to stay since her kids doesn’t want to accept her at their home. She has Alzheimer’s disease and none of her kids want to take care of her now. According to my grandmother, her kids refused to take her at their home since she is already difficult to deal with. And let’s face it; it would really be a challenge for her kids to take care of her specially now that she has Alzheimer’s disease.

According to my grand mother, her children’s plan now is to look for continuing care retirement homes where their mother can stay. Right now my grandmother’s friend is living with our neighbor and I think she is having a difficult time there too. My grand mother’s friend has Alzheimer’s disease and since our neighbor don’t have experience in taking care of an elderly with this condition, sometimes they can’t really give the best care to my grand mother’s friend.

This is kind of a sad story to hear but I swear I can never to do this to my parents. But since my grand mother’s friend has really no option, maybe staying in a continuing care retirement home would be best for her. At least if she stays there, there is really someone who is experienced to take care of her and to deal with her condition. She might even enjoy her stay there as she can get to mingle with other elderly staying in the retirement home.

I just wish my grand mother’s friend well and that she may be able to find the best continuing care retirement community that will really take care of her.

Taking care of someone with Alzeheimers is difficult and sometimes stressful depending on their stage.
I hope everything works out well for the lady.
