Traffic & Jeepneys

What is it with drivers and rain that even just after a little drizzle, jeepney drivers would start to drive like crazy, disobey traffic rules, will follow an anything goes strategy of driving and the result, heavy traffic.

That’s what happened to us on our way home from work. It was raining when we went out of the office and so we really expected that there would be heavy traffic. And so we are right since it took us more than an hour of travel time from my husband’s office to home.

And guess what the cause of the problems is? The jeepney drivers who don’t have any tiny bit of discipline and would ignore traffic lights and traffic rules, who would squeeze their way to tiny openings even though they know that there is no way that it will make the traffic move.

I know the jeepneys are a symbol of our country but I can’t help but feel irritated with those kinds of jeepney drivers because weather they admit it or not, they are the number one cause of traffic in Metro Manila. Sometimes, I even wish that they just abolish the jeepneys and just develop our railway system. I have been to several countries whose mode of transportation is the railway like Hong Kong and New York and it seems to be a very effective method of transportation. No traffic, no undisciplined drivers, convenient for the passengers and even a faster way of commuting.

Oh well, just my two cents.
